ETHICAL AND SUSTAINABLE FASHION

At Ashanti Empress, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that fashion should be fair, ethical, and environmentally responsible. That’s why we work directly with Ghanaian artisans, minimise waste, and ensure our products are made with care, respect, and purpose.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

We are committed to having a positive impact in Ghana, where all our clothing is made.

  • Fair Wages & Ethical Production – We work directly with 25 tailors, seamstresses, and craftspeople, ensuring they receive fair pay for their work.
  • Supporting Micro-Enterprises – The tailors we collaborate with typically run small businesses of 3-4 people, making it easy to see the direct impact of our partnership.
  • Sourcing Locally – Whenever possible, we use Ghanaian-produced and hand-dyed batik fabrics to support local textile industries. Any of the imported fabrics we use are sourced locally, in female owned & operated fabric shops in Kejetia market.
  • Built on Real Relationships – We personally know everyone involved in making our products. By working closely with them, we ensure ethical practices and high-quality craftsmanship.

A ZERO-WASTE APPROACH

We are constantly looking for ways to reduce waste and make use of every piece of fabric.

  • Nothing Goes to Waste – We create smaller products like headbands, wallets, tobacco pouches, and earrings from the offcuts of our clothing production.
  • Colour Me Crazy Collection – Every item in this range is made from 100% recycled fabric patchwork. We collect offcuts from our own designs and from other local tailors, sewing them into vibrant patchwork to create new products.
  • Re-purposing Damaged Items - Any damaged items are repurposed and turned into fabric offcuts which we sell for all your crafting projects, or we turn them into our Colour Me Crazy patchwork.
  • Upcycling Plastic Waste – Some of our designs incorporate recycled plastic water sachets, turning one of Ghana’s most common waste materials into something beautiful and functional.

ECO-FRIENDLY PACKAGING & OPERATIONS

From production to packaging, we make sustainable choices at every step.

  • Reduced Carbon Footprint – We place one large order annually instead of multiple small shipments, reducing transport emissions.
  • Recycled Packaging – Our products are packed together and shipped in recyclable cardboard boxes. All orders are shipped to customers in 100% recycled plastic mailbags.
  • Sustainable Shopping Bags – We never use plastic bags. Customers receive their items in recycled fabric bags or paper bags when needed.
  • Solar-Powered Stall – Our festival stall runs entirely on solar energy, ensuring that even our sales process is as environmentally friendly as possible.

By choosing Ashanti Empress, you are supporting fair wages, ethical craftsmanship, and sustainable practices. Every purchase helps create opportunities for Ghanaian artisans while minimising waste and protecting the planet.

Thank you for being part of a movement towards fairer, more sustainable fashion.
